NJPW Press Conference and Contract Signing.
This past Sunday, the match and date were officially set, as both 2010 NJ Cup winner, Hirooki Goto and NJPW's IWGP Heavyweight Champion, Shinsuki Nakamura, officially signed the contract for the IWGP Championship match to be held on 4/4 at Korakuen Hall. This is Hirooki Goto's second year in a row winning the coveted NJ Cup, and although last year's attempt to capture the IWGP Heavyweight Championship was unsuccessful, he is planning otherwise this year.
At the press conference, Hirooki stated, "The New Japan Cup is a symbol of strength, while the IWGP Championship is a symbol of excellence. Having won the cup again, I intend to prove myself by winning the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Korakuen this year."
The champion replied, "Goto won the NJ Cup this year and proved himself a strong competitor for my title. However, Goto needs not to blab so much. I'm not looking for a war of words. He may have won the tournament, but he will not win my championship."
Also, following their statements, Goto was asked in a Q&A session about his injury from last year. Goto replied, "My injury is over and I am fully recovered."
Indeed 4/4 at Korakuen Hall is shaping up to be an incredible event. I will also be keeping you updated as word filters down about the other tournaments coming up in New Japan Puroresu, including the Super J, and this year's inaugural Super J Tag Team Tournament.

NJPW and ZERO1 News
In light of Hirooki Goto's recent victory in the New Japan Cup Tournament, the IWGP Heavyweight Championship bout between Hirooki Goto and the current champion, Shinsuki Nakamura, along with an IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship bout between Jushin Liger and Huzimaru Masamiti, have been scheduled for April 4, 2010 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.
In other NJPW news, the first ever New Japan Super J Tag Team Tournament has been set for May 8, 2010. Tournament brackets have yet to be announced, but I will update as soon as they are.

Hiroshi Tanahashi also made an appearance at the Dainichi Universe in Osaka, Japan this past Sunday, March 21, where he met with fans, signed DVDs, collectibles and T-shirts. He also competed in a paper, rock, scissors tournament, in which he actually lost. What's worse is that flannel shirt that he wore to the event. However, he's still one of the best performers out there right now.
In ZERO1 News:
Hartley Jackson, the Australian Professional Wrestler, is going to be returning to Japan for ZERO1 in April for the "Yamato Shinshu Chikara Matsuri" at the Yasukuni Shrine on April 11,2010 and the Hokkaido Tour from April 13 - April 15. NJPW CUP: Tokyo Korakuen Hall
The action isn't long away now. It's Sunday morning at around 11:00 here in Tokyo and I'm anxiously anticipating the NJPW Cup Tournament today at Korakuen Hall (the only wrestling stadium that really matters if you ask me). Yesterday the officials of NJPW meet and held a press conference regarding the tournament, at which point a rather controversial statement was made by one Tobi Makabe who blatantly asked, "What is the New Japan Cup anyway?" His question was meant more as a statement of confidence, however, it was not taken that way by many. My personal prediction for the tournament this year: I'm actually rather torn between Hiroshi Tanahashi and Masato Tanaka, but my fear is that it may go to either Karl Anderson or Giant Bernard again. Let's keep our fingers crossed, shall we? I'll be live with results in the coming hours, as soon as I get some damn coffee in me that is.

Heading into an Explosive March!
Zero-1 has been the place for news over the past month, but let's start recently. With a very unfortunate turn of events, young Zero-1 star Shito Ueda (糸上田) broke his orbital bone and will be out of action for at least one month. Ueda had this to say publicly, "Due to an injury I will be absent from upcoming matches. Sorry to all the fans who looked forward to seeing me in the ring. I will heal as quickly as possible and promise when I return that I will show you all the energy and marvelous physical strength before your very eyes!" Funny he would mention eyes in this statement.
Also out of Zero-1, a popular former Zero-1 gaijin, Chris "Bambi Killer" Raaber, is returning to the Japanese promotion. Chris Raaber is an Austrian wrestler who gained noteriety in his home country and across the world before being signed with WWE in the United States under a developmental contract. There he was known as Christoph Herzog in the WWE's developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling. His three-year deal has fallen through and he's returning to his routes, this time teaming with another returning Zero-1 wrestler, The Predator. Chris Raaber and The Predator are scheduled to face the "Kazan" tag team of Shinjiro Otani & former Sumo Yokozuna, Akebono on the March 2nd, and are also scheduled against Masato Tanaka and Shinjiro Otani.
And at the top of the Zero-1 news, former World Heavyweight Champion Ryouji Sai has returned to his family's country of Korea to train for his upcoming World Heavyweight title match with Kawada on March 2. When talking about his training, Ryouji had this to say, "I did a lot of mental and physical preparation, and I feel now that I'm in a great state for my challenge. Now I am ready to take back the World Heavyweight title from Kawada, something Tanaka and KAMIKAZE couldn't do. I will surprise a lot of people and win the title belt again! (私は精神的、物理的な準備をしていた、と私は今では私は素晴らしい状態で私の挑戦なんです。今私は行うことができない川田、何か田中神風から世界ヘビー級タイトルを取り戻すために準備しています。私は多くの人に驚かれることでしょうし、再びタイトルをベルトに勝つ!)"

The standings are also in for the NJPW New Japan Cup for 2010 and it is filled with past winners, past performers and debut performers alike. Including Masato Tanaka (former ECW and FMW Champion), Giant Bernard who wrestled as Prince Albert for WWE here in the US and NJC 2009 winner Hirooki Goto.
Hiroshi Tanahashi (NJC 2005,2008 winner)
Hirooki Goto (NJC 2009 winner)
Togi Makabe
Yuji Nagata (NJC 2007 winner)
Manabu Nakanishi
Takahashi Yuuzirou (Debut)
Naitou Tetsuya (Debut)
Wataru Inoue
Tomoaki Honma
Toru Yano
Masato Tanaka (Debut)
Ishii Tomohiro
Giant Bernard (NJC 2006 winner)
"Machine Gun" Karl Anderson
Sutoronguman (CMLL) (Debut)
This certainly stands to be an incredible tournament.
In AJPW news, Dream Match presented by Power Production will be at Tokyo Korakuen Hall on February 28th. According to the AJPW website, Kawano Masaki is sidelined because of a training injury and will miss the tournament all together. Additional news is available on the AJPW website. There is a link listed at the top of the screen in the orange bar.
And in Michinoku Pro/ZERO1 news, Hayoto (Jr.) Fujita of Michinoku Pro will return to ZERO1 on March 2nd, promising to commit Oyajigari with a fellow unnamed member of Kowloon. Hayato Jr. says his first target will be Minoru Fujita who teamed with The Great Sasuke back in January, defeating the team of Ken45° and Hayato. It should be a promising event to say the least.
